The Cape Cod Sports Ambassadors, Inc.(CCSA) is a non-profit 501(c) 3 corporation composed of parents and community members who organize trips to other countries for high school students. The main purpose of the trips are cultural and educational exchange. Students, primarily from Cape Cod, have participated in this program since 1968, originally under the leadership of Leo P. Miller, retired coach from Nauset Regional High School. The group is not associated with any school or municipality.

Students have taken trips to Greece, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, France, Norway, Iceland, Scotland, England, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Estonia, Bermuda and the Soviet Union. Basketball is a common language among young people and serves as a way for them to interact. Participating students do not have to qualify for a school team; however, they must have some basic basketball experience.

CCSA brings student athletes to Europe for cultural exchanges using basketball as a bridge between cultures to engage the students in healthy competition and create a unique bond. Students do not have to be accomplished players, but must participate in practices and games. While competition is encouraged, student interaction, and the fun of the game are more important to the goal of enriching students’ lives through the experience. The most important part of the trip is the home stay with a basketball family in a smaller city or town. Although the group travels together and meets for daily sightseeing excursions and games, most of the trip is spent with a family. Each student learns firsthand about other customs and lifestyles. This is the highlight of the trip and some lasting friendships have been made.

Each trip may include a day in school with the host student if possible. A bonus sightseeing experience may be added exploring a major city at the beginning or end of the trip. Contact us for more information.
